OPAL EXTRAVAGANZA A ROARING SUCCESS

The 2017 celebration of opal was a momentous occasion!

Lightning Ridge Opal Gem Festival 2017

The WOW factor was predominant!

The luxurious décor and sixteen-piece band were befitting the occasion drawing accolades from guests throughout the night, and still it flows.

No doubt it will be a treasured memory for all who attended the 2017 International opal Jewellery Design Awards Presentation Dinner. To ensure that the memory of this night was perpetuated Tina Phipps Photography set up a professional photography booth.

The booth was a buzz throughout the evening ensuring that guests could capture the moment.

Fantastic effort Tina.!

On behalf of the International Opal Jewellery Design Awards Association I wish to express our sincere thanks to the multitude of people who have contributed to the amazing success of the 2017 IOJDA.

Each event unveils a different result!

This year is no exception and we are heartened and encouraged by the comments of so many people. I am extremely proud of the small group of dedicated and talented people who comprise the IOJDAA committee and equally thankful to a much larger group of volunteers who work tirelessly to bring this event to fruition.

We thank the catering team headed by Chris Turner and Afras for the delightful menu.

Well done to the hospitality students Lightning Ridge Central School, you served us fine!

(Kirstyn Smith, Nerina Haywood,Tiana Middleton, Xanthe Bryant, Christine Cox).

A special thank you must go to Brook Holland and Reagan Bevan for nurturing and guiding our beautiful models and handsome ushers for the evening.

Kat Diesenberger, Kelsey Strasek, Telena Drew, Laura Pymble, Kiara Davis, Chloe Buckley, Angie Newman (2016 Opal Queen), Carter Bevan, Phillip Spicer.

We are extremely proud of you all!

This community has many gems and successive generations of our gifted youth are testimony to this. We are very proud of you all and the achievements our ‘Ridge Kids’ have made in their chosen fields.

We thank Priscilla Martinez and art students Lightning Ridge Central School for the amazing backdrop that they created for the Awards Presentation Dinner evening.

Priscilla’s input throughout many events has been invaluable as have the efforts of Di Holz.

It is a myriad of volunteers both local and visiting that have brought this event to fruition.

For the efforts of Derek Brown, Bill Greenfield, the Grahams (Hill and Watty), Betty LeCudennec and the Puffin Billy Team who create the Opal Trade Show area, we thank you, you are champions.

A huge thank you is extended to Lee Edland who has stepped up to assist in every manner to draw this event to a successful conclusion.

The combined efforts of the Brown/Carney families and wonderful visiting semi-permanent Ridgeites transformed this auditorium into what I believe was the most breathtaking cuisine created by the IOJDAA since its inception. Thank you all.

Thanks, doesn’t seem adequate when it is applied to the effort and commitment that IOJDAA Treasurer, Karen Burns has contributed to this association over a period 16 years. I thank you personally and wish you well for the future.

I am deeply indebted to my right-hand elf, Annie Barclay who has been a constant in the lead up to  and presentation of this event. Thank you, Annie. I have been very fortunate in having a special elf by my side throughout my term with the IOJDAA.

My thanks to Chris Egan, Judy Greenfield, Joan Gebetsberger and Joycelyn Brown

I pay tribute to and congratulate the 2017 entrants in the International Opal Jewellery Design Awards competition and thank the Opal Family for coming together to celebrate the most magical gemstone of all, Australian Opal.

Thank you all and continue to Live the Dream.
